The Position of Leader in the Islamic Republic

[In this footage, the position of the leader in the Islamic Republic and his limitless powers are discussed.]

Narrator: Islamic revolution changed monarchy into a republic in Iran aiming at achieving independence, freedom and a government based on Islamic rules. As a result, Shah was replaced by the leader. But after Shah, what is the position of the leader in Iran? He is on top of the pyramid of power in Iran. His powers are limitless to the extent that he can remove heads of three branches. According to the constitution, he is the chief commander of all armed forces – the commander-in-chief. Without taking the opinion of people and the parliament into account, he can remove the high-ranking officials in the country. As the proxy of the Twelfth Shia Imam, he enjoys a sacred position as well. As a result, no one is virtually allowed to protest against his decisions. After Khomeini’s death, Khamenei was appointed as his successor. In recent years, the principle of Velayat-e Faqih has faced challenges, resulting in its desecration. In your opinion, what will be the future of velayat-e faqih?
