Rouhani slams U.S. administration

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani

[Iranian President Hassan Rouhani harshly criticizes the U.S. administration for immigration policies, saying American people are ashamed of Trump’s administration. Meanwhile, in recent protests in Iran, Iranian people have again and again chanted slogans against the Iranian regime and government.]

Hassan Rouhani: Some people have come to power who are not committed to anything. They are not committed to any treaties. Somebody who separates mothers from children and is proud of it, who separates 3- or 4-year-old kids from their mothers, who is proud of being anti-Islam and anti-Muslims, who is proud of building a wall with all neighbors to separate his path from his neighbor. We think that only people of the region are under pressure and only this region is under pressure. But what about they themselves? You may find it hard to believe but half of American people are ashamed of this administration. Let’s forget about us. This is inside the U.S. We should ask people and conduct poll there to see what percentage of people are happy with this administration, to see what percentage of people are proud of this White House and what percentage of people are ashamed. Look at the differences and clashes within the U.S. and between the U.S. and its close allies – Canada, Mexico, European Union and Asian countries. Well, among these people, there is a longstanding resentment towards us. One of the leaders who is today in the U.S. government had once said that ‘we must dry the root of Iranian nation.’ This was his words: the root of Iranian nation.
