Iranian First Vice President Ishaq Jahangiri

[Following the inflation in the foreign currency market, Iranian government attempts at fixing the price of the dollar and stopping its soaring price. Here Iranian First Vice President Ishaq Jahangiri announces the price while banning buying and selling foreign currencies in a free market.]

Ishaq Jahangiri: That is why we have decided to fix the price of foreign currencies – dollar’s price – for all economic actors from tomorrow [Tuesday, April 10]. The number that I will announce will be for any legal, official demands of economic actors – be it for importing goods (no matter what it is), for services, for passengers going abroad, for students studying overseas, for researchers, for scientists who need foreign currencies for their researches, and any other demands. Under these conditions, if they go to banks, the price of the dollar will be 4,200 tomans for them.

And, at this price, we will offer the necessary foreign currencies to economic actors and those who need foreign currencies through the Central Bank, foreign exchange shops, and banks that are controlled by the Central Bank. People shouldn’t have any concerns regarding providing the foreign currencies that they need at this price. They must go to banks and they will certainly get what they want. We will not recognize any other price for foreign currencies.

For us, any other price for foreign currencies will be considered as smuggling. Just as smuggling narcotic drugs is illegal, and no one has the right to buy and sell drugs, and those who buy and sell it will be confronted. So if any other price is formed in the market, the judiciary and security forces will confront with it and we will not recognize it.
