Journalist Cristina Mutchler
In this bulletin for ‘Newsy’ from Tuesday May 1 2018, journalist Cristina Mutchler reports that a Federal Judge in New York has ordered the Iranian regime to pay billions of dollars to the victims of the 2001 9/11 terror attacks, in which 2, 996 people were killed and over 6,000 injured in a series of four coordinated attacks in the USA by the Al Qaeda terror group.
The reporter states, “A Federal Judge in New York has ordered Iran to pay billions to the families of victims of the September 11 terror attack. But the ruling is largely symbolic. The ruling fines Iran, the Revolutionary Guards Corps, and the Iranian Central Bank. Iran has to pay 12.5 million dollars per spouse, 8.5 million dollars per parent and child, and 4.25 million per sibling.
This case is part of a broader set of lawsuits that have been consolidated over the years. Saudi Arabia is the main target of most of most of those suits, many of which allege the country aided the 9/11 hijackers. The 9/11 Commission found no evidence of direct Iranian support, or that Iran ‘was aware of the planning for what later became the 9/11 attack.’”
