Ayatollah Seyyed Ahmad Khatami, a prominent ultra-hardline cleric and regime insider and a senior member of the regime’s Assembly of Experts
In this sermon from last Friday (April 6), a notorious hardline regime cleric threatens that the Israeli cities of Tel Aviv and Haifa will be turned into “ghost towns” and “razed to the ground”, daring the Israeli government to try attacking Hezbollah again and suggesting if they do the two cities will be annihilated.
Ayatollah Seyyed Ahmad Khatami, a prominent ultra-hardline cleric and regime insider and a senior member of the regime’s Assembly of Experts (the body responsible for appointing the Supreme Leader), was appointed by the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei to lead Friday’s prayers in Khamenei’s absence.
In his sermon, Khatami told the assembled regime loyalists, “A Zionist official said, ‘By the end of 2017 we will attack Hezbollah in Lebanon’, and in return the brave men of Hezbollah gave them a crushing response, but I personally on this Friday prayer dais would like to say [to Israel], ‘You have twice tried your luck [in attacking Hezbollah] but Hezbollah’s missiles are within a 70-kilometer range to target Tel Aviv and Haifa, turning them into ghost towns. Today Hezbollah is massively stronger than it was in previous years, so if you’re not reluctant to see Tel Aviv and Haifa razed to the ground, do try your luck once again.”
