Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei

In this recent speech to regime loyalists in Tehran, the Supreme Leader Khamenei tells the audience that the country’s young people must prepare themselves “in terms of knowledge, confidence and revolutionary motivation” in order to help strengthen the Islamic Republic. As his audience repeat the traditional chants of religious piety and opposition to the US, Britain, and Israel, Khamenei adds that the regime will continue to get stronger, citing the words of his predecessor, the Islamic Republic’s founder Khomeini, ‘America Can’t-Do A Damn Thing!’

In the speech, Khamenei says, “I’d like to talk about the future of our country. Firstly, the youth should make themselves ready in terms of knowledge, confidence and revolutionary motivation. The youth must always be ready because they’re the motivating force of this revolution. They’ve always been so, from the first day. Fortunately, we have much more determined and insightful youth now than in the early days of the revolution. Not only more than those days, but with higher qualities and deeper knowledge. So, the youth should prepare themselves. Strengthen their revolutionary ideas, insights, and act. And let everyone know this; the Islamic Republic is strong. The reason for this strength is that for 40 years, all the arrogant filthy regimes in the world have wanted to topple the Islamic Republic, but they couldn’t do a damn thing!”

At this point, the crowd of regime loyalists chants “Allah is the greatest! Allah is the greatest! Allah is the greatest! Khamenei is our leader! Down with the USA! Down with Britain! Down with hypocrites! Down with Israel!”

After they finish chanting, Khamenei resumes his speech, saying, “The cause of the current authority of the Islamic Republic, its survival despite all the enmity and troubles throughout these decades; the Islamic Republic is alive. Therefore it indicates that the seedling [of the 1979 Islamic revolution] has become a huge tall tree which they are not able to shake anymore. And we will get stronger – you [should] be sure of this. And we are aware of the threats; we hear them talking, whether they speak publicly or sometimes in their secret circles. We’re aware of their conspiracies. But with all this, I repeat what Khomeini used to say: ‘America Can’t-Do A Damn Thing!’”

The crowd then repeats their traditional chants: “Allah is the greatest! Allah is the greatest! Allah is the greatest! Khamenei is our leader! Down with the USA! Down with Britain! Down with hypocrites! Down with Israel!”
