Ahmad Amirabadi Farahani, Member of Parliament’s board of directors

[In this footage, Ahmad Amirabadi Farahani, Member of Parliament’s board of directors, is talking about taxes and salaries in 2018 Budget Bill.]

Ahmad Amirabadi Farahani (Member of Parliament’s board of directors): Up to 2.3 million tomans will be exempted from tax. More than that it will increase 2 times, 4 times, and the tax reaches up to 25% to 35%.

TV host: OK. Now let’s talk about salaries. Let me ask you this. Apparently, in 2018 the employees whose salaries are less than 5 million tomans will have 10 to 18 percent increase. Please explain about the way salaries of employees will be calculated from now on. How is this increase going to happen?

Ahmad Amirabadi Farahani (Member of Parliament’s board of directors): It is the same with salaries. This year Budget Integration Commission has decided not to increase salaries of MPs, ministers, ambassadors, governors, heads of branches and their deputies, deputy governors, mayors of centers of provinces and metropolises and also the salaries of city councils of centers of provinces. And their salaries will correspond to those of 2017.

As for those whose salaries are above 5 million tomans, they will receive no raise. What has happened is that those with lowest salaries will get 20%, and this will taper out and those who get 5 million tomans as salaries will have 0% raise. It means that those with lower salaries will get more raise from this year, and those with higher salaries will get less raise. As for the 10% that you said, it is the average of resources that we have added, not that we have added 10% to salaries.

The raise is from 20% to 0%. It means that those who get the least salaries will have 20% raise, and when the salaries reach to 5 million tomans, it is 0%.

TV anchor: And this is for 2018?

Ahmad Amirabadi Farahani (Member of Parliament’s board of directors): Yes, 2018. It is ratified by Budget Integration Commission and is brought up in 12th footnote [of the Budget Bill]. Our colleagues in the Parliament are working on making an exception for judges and members of academic boards of universities. Now we have to wait for a couple of days to get to a 12th footnote, and everything will become clear.

TV host: So to say more transparently, how much should it be to get 20% raise?

Ahmad Amirabadi Farahani (Member of Parliament’s board of directors): The minimum salary for 2018 will probably be announced as 1,300,000 or 1,400,000 tomans. 20% will be added to it which will be like 280,000 or 260,000 tomans. Now the government is going to ratify that formula.
