In this news bulletin from Iranian state TV, the female anchor reports on a recent statement by US President Donald Trump on the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) nuclear deal between Iran and the P5+1 nations, in which he reportedly reiterated his insistence that Iran must not be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons. There has been much speculation on the possibility that President Trump may decertify the 2015 deal brokered by his predecessor Barrack Obama.
The female anchor introduces the report, saying, “The White House spokesperson said that the president has made his decision on Iran’s nuclear deal and will declare it in due time. Sarah Sanders added that Trump’s decision also includes a comprehensive strategy on how to treat Iran, which will soon be made public. The White House spokesperson claimed that a united team is behind this strategy and supports [Trump’s] efforts in this regard.
The Washington Post quoted US officials, saying that Trump has not confirmed Iran’s commitment to the JCPOA. The president of the United States, while accusing Iran of violating the spirit of the agreement, claims that Iran is sponsoring terrorism.”
The newsreader then repeats the relevant portion of Trump’s speech delivered during a meeting with senior administration officials, in which he reportedly said, “We must not allow Iran … to obtain nuclear weapons. The Iranian regime supports terrorism and exports violence, bloodshed and chaos across the Middle East. That is why we must put an end to Iran’s continued aggression and nuclear ambitions. They are not in the spirit of the agreement in compliance”.
