Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, on Wednesday urged European leaders to oppose the U.S. President Donald Trump’s latest call for new restrictions on Iran’s missile program.
In a speech to supporters which was broadcast on Iranian state media, Khamenei strongly condemned last week’s statement by Donald Trump in which the American leader threatened to “cancel” the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) nuclear deal between Iran and the P5+1 nations which was brokered by his predecessor Barrack Obama, unless Congress and European allies can develop a strategy to curb Iran’s nuclear program and its regional aggression.
In this clip from the speech, Khamenei tells the audience: “The Europeans should stand against the U.S.’ anti-Iran measures. If the U.S. continues to violate the nuclear deal, for instance, through the sanctions the White House expects the Congress to impose, the Europeans must actively oppose such a move. And then, they should stay away from interfering in our strategic issues, such as our defense power. They should not get on board with the U.S.”
