A senior Iranian regime official last week again threatened that the regime would react to “even the slightest violation” of the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) nuclear deal by the USA by abandoning the deal completely.
In an interview broadcast by state media on Wednesday October 18, Mohsen Rezai, a senior military officer in the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and Sectary of the Expediency Discernment Council, said, “Regarding the JCPOA issue, we don’t have to talk with anyone, not America or Europe; if the slightest violation is committed of the JCPOA, then we’ll certainly have an appropriate response and there will be no need for us to continue with a dead, useless and ineffective JCPOA.
Once the JCPOA is binding for our nation, it will have a sort of effectiveness; otherwise, if the objective of the JCPOA is aimed only at stopping us from nuclear activities but provides no benefits and no fruitfulness for our nation, basically the JCPOA will be automatically be considered a void deal by our nation.
Trump wants to do something that allows the appearance of the JCPOA to remain while making the actual JCPOA a dead and unproductive deal. By imposing pressure, he’s seeking to prevent any type of European cooperation with us so as not to allow us to have the slightest benefit from the JCPOA. Therefore, in these circumstances, the JCPOA will be ineffective, and it’s clear that Iran will definitely leave this situation and continue with our nuclear activities.”
