In this news bulletin from Iranian state TV, Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, contemptuously dismisses recent calls by the American UN envoy for monitors to visit Iran’s military sites, asserting that the US government should give up on this “fantasy”, which he says it will never realise and will ultimately “take to the grave” unfulfilled. Appearing alongside the senior cleric at a press conference, government spokesman Mohammad Bagher Nobakht echoes his words and asserts that the US Senate’s and government’s actions are against the terms of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the 2015 nuclear deal signed between P5+1 nations and the Iranian regime.
The news anchor introduces the clip, saying, “The advisor to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution in International Affairs and the government spokesman have both condemned the new American excuses regarding the inspection of military sites. Mr. Mohammed Bagher Nobakht said that the Senate and the USA government actions are against the terms of the JCPOA, [while] Ali Akbar Velayati, the advisor on international affairs to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that Americans will take the fantasy of inspecting Iranian military sites to the grave.”
The video footage shows Velayati speaking at a press conference attended by dozens of Iranian journalists and reporters from regime-affiliated foreign media, telling them: “In this fantasy [the call for inspection of Iranian regime military sites], which Americans must take to the grave, they would be able, under the excuse of the JCPOA or any other pretext, to inspect our military sites, which are part of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s national security framework. They will never ever be allowed to inspect those sites, and these unsubstantiated claims raised by the new US administration are solely for their own domestic consumption, and they know that in this region [the Middle East] they don’t have any respect or influence, especially in the Islamic Republic of Iran, which is the main axis of resistance in the region. We will never allow, not to Americans or non-Americans, to inspect the Islamic Republic of Iran’s military sites, which are sensitive and strategic parts of our national security that we will not allow being inspected.”
