Iran’s poultry shops passing off chicken as beef, admits health ministry spokesman

In this February 1 state TV news report, a reporter asks a health ministry spokesman if it’s true that some poultry shops in the country have been dying chicken meat red and selling it as beef.

The health ministry spokesman admits that unfortunately a number of such cases have taken place, adding that the Ministry of Health, along with the country’s Food and Drug Administration and animal welfare organisations, are  working to eradicate such fraudulent activities. He adds that citizens have no need to worry so long as they buy chicken only from official state-approved outlets and certified poultry shops.

[The report was filmed during a press conference marking the 38th anniversary of the ten days following the return of the Islamic Republic’s founder Ayatollah Khamenei from exile in 1979.]
